The Unwind Center is a community centered organization that promotes musicians and music education and has been at it since 1998. Critical eyebrows were raised when the Center opened its doors and the organization was expected to close down in 6 months! Nobody could understand or slot-in the vision of promoting western music in traditional Chennai and that too without the attachments of alcohol, drugsor profanity!
Now, a decade and more later the Unwind Center carries the nick name the ‘Mecca of music’ where hundreds of bands and musicians have gained exposure, thousands of music lovers have been impacted includes a Theatre for Performing Arts and a full time office running with a team of 12 dedicated in working under various departments. Also, every 6 months about 200 students pass out of the various courses offered at the Unwind School of Music.
Humble beginnings have now lent to 6 annual festivals celebrating musical genres like rock, indie, tribute concerts, regular Saturday gigs and many more.
